July 2023

This site needs some updates. It will get them. R2R started, long ago, as a sort-of-travel-blog, and there is some travelling coming up real soon.

I’ll also probably get rid of / archive a lot of the older posts on here, so, er, get them while they’re cold.

In the meantime, here are a couple of pieces of academic writing that I never got around to posting about on here:

  • ‘Even Better than the Real Thing: a conceptual history of the “Celtic Phoenix”’ Irish Studies Review, special issue on the Celtic Phoenix, 2023.
  • ‘Hardly Working: eliding remunerative labour in recent Irish women’s fiction,’ Irish Studies Review, Vol. 31:1, pp16-33. Special issue on Irish Women’s Writing and Work, Jan 2023.

Oh, and my novel-in-progress, The Satanists, was a named runner-up for the Irish Novel Fair 2023, which was nice.

Did I ever post about Writhe & Succumb on here? I have a music project now, it’s called Writhe & Succumb, it has one (1) track, entirely written, recorded, and performed by me, with lyric video also by me: OILDROUGHT. I’m actually enormously proud of this, even though I can simultaneously see enormous room for improvement in almost every part of it (apart from maybe the lead guitar tone and riff which already slap). Someday I aspire for Writhe & Succumb to have two (2) tracks.

Here’s a rainbow over Portobello beach, near where I live now.

Funny, how things happen.
